The Seaport Museum in New York is looking for 2/3 collection management and/or archives interns for the upcoming Winter/Spring semester, mid-January to mid-May 2020.
The internship is unpaid, and it’s primary for college credits.
The Seaport Museum is dedicated to document the history of New York City’s port, from its earliest days in the 17th century, until today. The Museum houses exhibition galleries, two working nineteenth century print shops, a large collections of works of art and artifacts, archives, and a maritime reference library, and a fleet of historic ships docked on Pier 16.
The Collections Department is currently in the middle of the first wall-to-wall inventory in over two decades of its 28,000+ collections including paintings; drawings, prints and photographs; ship models; and historic artifacts; and a 65,000+ archival collections, including business and ship documents, manuscripts and ephemera. The intern will be able to have hands-on collections care, cataloging, research and digitization experiences, as well as have the possibility to meet with other department heads, participate in meetings, assist in general Museum events, and attend professional development outings in other museums, archives and libraries.
Please forward the posting attached to any current or past students and interns of yours, that might be interested.
