The 1901 two-sail bateau “skipjack” Kathryn is an early example of an oyster-dredging vessel that was seen in great numbers on the Chesapeake Bay in the late 1890s. Built in Crisfield, Maryland, Kathryn served several different owners in Maryland and Virginia. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1994, Kathryn was documented by HAER in 1995 when she was still dredging oysters.
