An AAM National Award or Recognition honors those who are positively impacting their communities and the museum field. With a streamlined process and broad eligibility, the awards program honors professionals across diverse roles.

Nominations for 2025 awards and recognition are due December 6 for all categories:

The Award for Distinguished Service to Museums recognizes an individual’s significant and sustained contributions to the museum profession for at least 20 years.

Nancy Hanks Memorial Awards for Rising Stars recognize museum professionals who have 10 years or fewer of experience as a museum professional who are making an impact in their institutions, communities, and the museum field. Multiple individuals may be recognized in a given year.

Recognition for the Advancement of Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion in Museums highlights the important and noteworthy work that is driving impact and making a difference in DEAI, with acknowledgement that DEAI work is necessarily ongoing and iterative. Multiple individuals, programs/initiatives, and organizations may be recognized in a given year.
