On November 8th, the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation celebrated its new COPELAND MARITIME CENTER with a “Grand Opening” Gala. The event was sold out. Namesake honorees Tatiana and Gerret Copeland performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony, and Delaware’s finest joined the celebration, including Governor Markell, U.S. Senators Thomas Carper and Chris Coons, and U.S. Representative John Carney (the state’s entire Congressional delegation).
Together with a new dock and complete shipyard overhaul, the new 18,000 sq. ft. education center and ship maintenance facility will transform the foundation’s operations and sustainability, and help to make them a year-round destination in the Delaware Valley.
